Curating Art for November Gallery Exhibit

Sorting through art 1

Spent yesterday evening at Dr. Becker’s house looking at art and discussing which pieces should be up at the Ground Floor Theatre gallery next month.  Some general notes:

  • He’s going to print out programs about the featured artists (their bios) with selected art on the back
  • He’ll help publicize our event at the official November 14th gala downtown with flyers I need to get him

We’ll feature artists:

  • Erik Warren (from Houston) who works with a scroll saw: 3 pieces
  • Christophe Pillault (born in Iran, now living in France) who uses his hands to paint directly to canvas: 3-4 pieces
  • Richard Wawro (from Scotland) who was born with cataracts and about whom the movie Eyes Wide Open was made: 4 of his pieces, plus 2-3 pictures of him at work
  • Grant Manier (also from Houston) who uses small pieces of paper to create complex art: 2-3 pieces
  • Kimberly Dixon (lives in the Austin area, I believe) who creates poetry and art: 1-2 pieces
  • Ping Lian Yeak (from Malaysia) who draws and had a lot of early success when he was very young: 3-4 pieces

We’ve got a bunch of stuff to figure out still, like how much art will fit in the space, how best to use the space, and how many books and other articles to feature.  But I’m hoping we can sort that out as we start to load in on November 15th.  Some of the art may be for sale as well, and we’ll figure that out as we go too.

Um… okay, that’s all I got.  (except here are a few more pieces lined up in the living room…)
