Mayday Benefit for ScriptWorks

We’re partnering with a few friends to put on a benefit night to help out one of my favorite orgs, ScriptWorks, which hasn’t received its usual city grants, and has a pretty uncertain future at this point. We’re hoping to keep it running at full speed as long as we can. The following (below) is from the press release. You can buy a Pay it Forward ticket which gives money to the org even if you can’t make it. Consider it if you can. I truly believe that helping ScriptWorks (as an incubator of new talent) helps all of Austin Theater.

WHAT:
Friends of ScriptWorks and the newly-formed Latin@xé Artists ATX invite you to join them for a benefit reading of the moving new play ESPERANZA by Rupert Reyes. All proceeds from the night go to benefit ScriptWorks which enters the most challenging financial season it’s ever had. There will be a raffle, a silent auction, and delicious food. Seating is limited.

ESPERANZA tells the story of Mercedes Urive – a Mexican immigrant who pays the price for trusting the United States with her hopes, dreams, and rights as a new mother.

Inspired by the voices of Mexican families separated at the U.S. Border, ESPERANZA offers a personal look at an inhumane public policy.
