So just weeks after I wrote about my uncle’s remarkable longevity despite a lifetime of unhealthy habits, he passed away one night in his sleep.
It was a surprise in some ways, but also felt timely somehow. He’s on a long wait list now for a service at the Arlington cemetery, which I hope to attend in late summer or early fall (as soon we find out the assigned time).
As a result of his passing, my cousins sent a box of photos and assorted trinkets to my father, including an old Zippo lighter and a sweet tie-clip. The box also included this handsome suede jacket which was bought back in the day when my uncle was doing freelance photography shoots. I think I might be the only one in the family it fits.
It looks old-fashioned and doesn’t quite fit in with my otherwise-super-striking-and-adventurous wardrobe. But I will find a way to make it mine and wear it with confidence and pride. (maybe in a dark, smoky bar for starters)
This jacket is going to do something for me. Just you wait.
To be continued…
