Mortified Show in Austin in February

I’m so, so, so excited about this. I’m going to be performing in the Doomed Valentine’s Day show for Mortified Austin at the Highball February 14th and 15th.

The way this came about was just a quick random series of events. I got invited last-minute to a party in December. Then I happened to run into an actor I’d worked with long ago (Michelle) and she happened to mention she was a producer for Mortified. I said I’d seen the show and was impressed with it (I went to a show in Oakland several months ago), and then said I’d be interested in being in it (without knowing what I’d do). She said they happened to be having a producer meeting in a few days, and just happened to have one last slot open. I thought about ideas overnight, messaged Michelle, set up an appointment, and they invited me to do it!

Running through ideas, I landed on a story around the band I was in from about age 14-17, Reverse. There was one song in particular I thought might be a good focus, “She’s Gone,” which I’d written at age 14 about a pretend girl I pretend-missed.

Then my longtime friend and former bandmate Brendan said he had a bunch of material we could use (lyrics, audio recordings, even some video). Piece by piece, things started coming together. I’m going to be crafting and polishing the story over the next few weeks.

The most exciting bit (potentially) is that there’s a live band as part of the Austin show – and I’m really hoping I can recreate one of our songs with them, maybe even singing it again, almost four decades after we debuted it live.

This is a still shot of the video from 1985. And yes, that’s a bleached tuft of hair up front.

I may post about this again, but tickets are available now HERE
