I’m so excited that the crew that got A Million More to Go onstage in Austin has decided to turn it into a feature-length independent film.
I went back and forth a few times with the director, turning the playscript into a screenplay, and they started filming last week about an hour outside of Austin.
The crew is super professional and the experience has been really cool to witness. There’s still filming to do, but they’re hoping to wrap that up in the next couple of weeks, and then work on editing and post-production, with the goal of submitting the film to at least one festival before this November’s election. On IMDB it has a release date of 2025.
There are still a lot of unknowns, and there’s financial risk taken by the producers, but it’s an exciting process, and something I’ve always wanted to be part of. I never expected a film of one of my scripts to happen in quite this way, but it’s organic and uplifting and thrilling.
I’ll likely add more posts as we get to next steps. The tone of the film is quite different from the play (though the script is mostly the same). Should be a hoot, and is already a great learning experience.
