So I just discovered the other day that we’d been nominated for a couple of Broadway World Austin awards for our June production of GOOD WEATHER FOR BUNDT CAKES. I guess they’d been up for a week or two but I had no idea.
Anyway, it’s nice. The nominations are for Best Site Specific Production and Best Writing for an Original Work.
There are a few different award groups in town, and I don’t honestly know how all of them work, though these seem to be powered by public audience vote (at least to determine the overall winners).
I don’t see how we really have a chance of winning, considering our venue fit about 20 people max per show, but it’s definitely flattering to be mentioned, given that there were many other shows not included.
Anyway, struggling a bit about whether to personally press people to vote for it, or just leave it be. I don’t wanna push too hard, but I could see possibly coming close with that Site Specific award which would be a nice feather in the ol’ cap (as they say).
Dunno.
BUT it was a really sweet surprise to stumble upon. I actually think the acting was the strongest bit of the show, and it would have been nice to get recognition there as well.
As a first step, though, not too shabby. And it motivates me to get to work on the next thing—which I hope to do in 2016. In an office environment (of course) way up north.
More on that when/if I’ve got it…
