The Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics

Hey, it’s a post about math! Trying to break up the dreariness of stories and plays and jogging with something a bit more exciting.

The Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics in Budapest is the place to be if you want to talk about and investigate mathematical theories. Mathematicians and scientists from there have been nicknamed The Martians because their talents and abilities were so far above the rest of the world that they seemed other-worldly.

Why do I know this? Because I discussed it with a friend who has a doctorate in math.

And why did I discuss that with him? And why should you care?

Because my son is studying there right now!

How long have I been doing this damn blog? My kid could barely tie his shoes when I started, and now he’s hobnobbing with international students and professors about a subject he knows infinitely more about than I do. Amazing. He traveled halfway across the world on his own too. How is that even possible???

It’s okay, I don’t feel old. And I’m definitely not anxious about that solo world travel to a place that borders a current warzone. Eeeeee!

Proud of you, kiddo! Bring back some, uh, theorems and stuff for us to chat about over ice cream and goulash….
