Liveblogging 1448_Austin Night #2

1448 first play first night Last SeductionThese guys killed it tonight (this is them earlier today getting accustomed with the script), and unbelievably, they’re going back onstage RIGHT NOW to do it again!

A really fun night.

Now working on the script for night #2…

10pm

  • We just got the new theme: “Time to go”
  • No idea what to do with it yet, want to avoid obvious plots involving death and bathrooms
  • Mine goes on 5th tomorrow
  • I have two men and one woman in the cast (no idea which actors or director yet)
  • This is a nice post about the kind of excitement and energy this show brings
  • Thinking about what to write about…

11pm

  • Struggling, still trying to figure out what to focus on
  • Considering a blind guy driving an automated car which keeps telling him when there’s a green light (time to go)
  • Considering something with amoebas or fetuses or something
  • Considering polar bears on an iceberg which is slowly shrinking
  • I don’t know, tough
  • Gotta have something nailed down in next hour and crank it out
  • So tired

12am

  • All right, settling on polar bears and some kind of time lapse of them on icebergs
  • A walrus circles and let’s the audience know where we are in time
  • The polar bears talk about music
  • Gotta get something together soon before I’m just loopy all the time
  • Characters are Willie the Walrus, Tim the Polar Bear and Laura the Polar Bear
  • Is it the most brilliant thing you’ve ever heard of?
    • That’s what I thought…
  • Bed by 2am at latest, yes?
    • Yes, please

12:47am

  • Can’t do it, need to take a break
  • Not sure if story’s making sense
  • Short nap, then complete, send it in before 8am
  • Polar bears, walruses, how can you go wrong?
  • ???

11am

  • Faaaaa!
  • That was stressful
  • Slept until 6, got up, realized half of what I’d written didn’t work
    • Had the polar bears alternating between talking about old music and current politics and it just didn’t work at all
  • Ditched politics, went back to music, started working better
  • BUT it was 6:30, then 7:00, then 7:15 and I hadn’t finished
  • Took a shower, figured out a couple of things, sprinted to finish it and sent it in at 8:01 (a minute late)
  • Then met with Tamara the director and she seemed exasperated with getting a bunch of animals on a shrinking iceberg in just a few hours
    • But I’m hoping it was exasperated in a way that leads to something… amazing!
  • Now at chess tournament trying to stay awake
  • Glad the hard part (for me) is done (and I still have a beer ticket left!)
  • Fun! (?) (!)
  • This is a recap of last night’s show, which was super entertaining; will want it for posterity when this all seems like a dream (which it already does)

LATE FOLLOWUP

  • Tamara and the cast and design crew did amazing work
  • Turned out really great; I was so happy with it!
  • Here’s a shot from the show with the leads (taken by Jack Darling) (hope I get the chance to do this again) (recap of all shows from Saturday night here)
